Overview on Research

The research of Fabian Kolodzy consists of the synthesis and functionalization of sustainable microgel-systems for plant protection. Due to the biocompatibility and biodegradability, the focus is on the use of the polysaccharide chitosan which is won from the shell of crustaceans. Microgels are suited for the controlled transport of nutrients or pesticides. Incorporation of responsive groups enables target-specific release so that the drugs are released on demand. Thereby, the efficiency of the drugs can be increased so less amounts are required.

Research focus

  • Functionalization of biopolymers with focus on pectin and chitosan
  • Synthesis and characterization of responsive microgel containers for controlled uptake and release of biological molecules (peptides, DNA)
  • Target-specific release of nutrients and pesticides for application in plant protection
