Research

Science is currently facing the great challenge of finding ways to overcome the energy crisis and the environmental crisis at the same time. A much-discussed approach is the splitting of water to hydrogen, or the thermodynamically more favorable basic chemical hydrogen peroxide. In addition to the use of electrolysis, photocatalysis offers a further possibility to enable water splitting. The use of light energy offers great opportunities here, since large amounts of solar energy reach the earth every day. Photocatalysts are able to harness this energy for chemical applications. A promising class of materials for this application are covalent triazine-based frameworks (CTFs). Their many positive properties can be well influenced by the choice of monomers and synthesis route. For this reason, the influence of the chemical composition on the optoelectronic and physicochemical properties must be investigated.
