The chemical storage of renewable energies (Power to X) enables a more efficient use of energy resources. Hereby, the hydrogenation of CO2 combines energy storage through the use of ‘green hydrogen’ with the use of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide as C1-building block. Reaction products such as ethanol already serve as fuel additive or are used as a platform chemical as part of the chemical value chain.
