Electrocatalytic upgrading of biogenic carboxylic acids through (non-)Kolbe electrolysis to value-added chemicals and sustainable biofuels.

Research focus:

  • Understanding the influence of substrate structure on (non-)Kolbe electrolysis including an elucidation of the involved reactions networks.
  • Study of the impact coming from process variables such as applied current, electrolyte or solvent on respective reaction systems.
  • Design of novel electrode materials and 3D printing for alternative reaction cells.
  • Analysis of substrate streams towards tailored fuel mixtures.
