Development of an energy-efficient process for the separation of biomass-derived, hydrophilic diols, polyols and monosaccharids from aqueous phase by adsorption on functional polymers. Research is focused towards:
- Polymer synthesis and characterization, major analytical methods include: elemental analysis, solid-state NMR, FTIR, REM, XPS, N2- and H2O sorption
- Batch and continuous sorption studies of single-components, model systems as well as real reaction mixtures and fermentation broths
- Process design and -development
