Traditionally, catalysis has been divided into heterogeneous and homogeneous systems, each with distinct advantages. An approach towards combining the best of both modes of catalysis is the use of so-called solid molecular catalysts (SMCs). In SMCs, ligand motifs of homogeneous catalysts are incorporated into polymer structures to yield a heterogeneous material with a comparable electronic surrounding.
We recently synthesized a material containing a promising new ligand structure. In this research internship, the goal is to synthesize and characterize additional materials within this family and screen them in various target reactions. This internship has a considerable synthetic difficulty and is aimed at SYN/CAT students.
