Photocatalysts enable the use of light as an energy source in chemical reactions and, especially when using sunlight, create the basis for sustainable chemical transformations. In recent years, a variety of homogeneous and heterogeneous photocatalysts have been developed. One promising class of materials, which has been little explored in the field of photocatalysis, are solid molecular catalysts (SMCs). SMCs are homogeneous ligand motifs that can be incorporated into polymers, for example, thus combining the advantages of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.
Within the framework of AK Palkovits, amine-based SMCs were prepared which can harness visible light for chemical transformations. In the following, the influence of the ligand motifs and crosslinks in the SMC on the optoelectric and physicochemical properties will be considered and different organic photoreactions will be reviewed.
Research focus
- Synthesis and characterization of new amine-based solid molecular catalysts (SMCs).
- Application of SMCs in different photocatalytic reactions
