Overview on Research
Maria Isabell Piepers research focuses on colloidal microgel assemblies. Here, the focus is on the incorporation of microgels into larger hydrogels or microgel composites regarding shape memory, phase separation and coacervation effects. For this, batch polymerization and droplet-based microfluidics are employed as synthesis methods for the production of highly monodisperse polymeric particles in the sub-micron and micrometre range. The analysis of the mechanical properties of microgels, colloidosomes and microgel assemblies plays an important role in the characterization of different materials for a variety of applications.
Research focus
- Synthesis of different colloidal microgel-based structures
- Investigation of effects such as shape memory and phase separation
- Characterization of mechanical properties
