Overview on Research

My research topic focuses on the fabrication of fibrin-based hydrogels for application in heart valve implants. The synthesis and characterization of fibrin-based hydrogels modified with biopolymers, such as polysaccharides is approached. The aim is to tailor the mechanical properties of the hydrogels to fit the requirements of the cells in the heart valve implants. The biobased hydrogels modified in this way will be processed using 3D printing.

Research focus

  • Functionalization of biopolymers (e.g. dextran)
  • Synthesis and characterization of fibrin-based hydrogels
  • Fabrication of biobased hydrogels by 3D printing on a bioprinter
