Specialization and Responsibilities
Marc Schmitz received his M.Sc. degree in chemistry from RWTH Aachen University by the end of 2012. For his doctoral studies at the Institute of Technical and Macromolecular Chemistry, he joined the groups of Prof. Dr. Walter Leitner and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klankermayer, where he focused on the utilization of CO2 as C1-building block for the formation of carboxylic acids and hydrocarbons.
From the end of 2016 to the end of 2018, after finishing his doctorate, he was coordinator of the Profile Area Molecular Science and Engineering (MSE) at the RWTH Aachen University and part of the joint project Carbon2Chem®. Since November 2018 he has been involved in the coordination of Carbon2Chem® and the Kopernikus project Power-to-X (P2X) and has been an associated member of the CMT. From the beginning of 2019 to the end of July 2021, he was also part of the project management team at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (CEC) in Mülheim a. d. R. in the group “Molecular Catalysis”. He has been Managing Director of the CMT since August 2021.
